V305.40.10 Health Systems and Services in International Comparison
Goal
Based on the WHO framework on health systems performance, this module allows participants to review, discuss and analyse selected health policy issues in Switzerland and to compare health systems and services of countries in Europe, Africa and Asia.Upon completing the course, you will be able to
- critically review and apply the performance framework to current health policy issues in Switzerland
- review, analyse and compare experiences in health system reform and strengthening in countries of Europe, Africa and Asia
- analyse and outline Swiss health policy issues in the light of international examples
Contents
WHO framework on health systems performanceFive case studies on the main elements of the performance framework in the Swiss context
- Stewardship/governance
- Health information and evidence for decision-making
- Organisation and provision of services, resource planning, allocation and decentralisation
- Financing and payment (e.g. diagnostic related groups in Swiss hospitals)
- Quality management systems (e.g. in ambulatory care)
Methods
Prior to the course, participants have to read and prepare a case study (within a small group) on one of the five elements of the above-mentioned performance framework. During the course students will hear introductory lectures and presentations, do group work and subsequently present and discuss their work with experts. After the first two days of the course, there will be a one day break in order to allow the participants to finalise their respective case study.Exam
